Use
In Portuguese there are several ways to refer to something that happened in the past, each with varying shades of meaning. The preterite is the simplest of these. It’s like saying ‘i watched a movie’ not, ‘i was watching a movie’ not, ‘i have been watching a movie’ nor is it ‘i had watched a movie’. You get the idea.
