US scandals in the news

US news is surprisingly big down here. It’s common to see the main headline covering a US event. Today it is (of course) the Petraeus scandal. here’s how the headline reads:

FBI investiga como amante de Petraeus teve acesso a documentos secretos

You can learn a lot by reading news stories.

Notice how the word, “secretos” is in the plural. In english we would say “secret documents” — not secrets documents (!).

That’s because in portuguese, the noun and the adjective always match each other — they agree with one another.

In other words, if you are talking about yummy deserts, you would say “… sobrimesas gostosos”  *** note that gostosos is plual just like sobrimesas.
